PC Widgettm “IMPROVED”
First we made SchoolPhones. Then we discovered we needed a better way to connect them and a way to provide a volume control without raising the cost of the individual headphone. Voila….PC Widget.
In freshman economics we used the term “Widget” to represent any product of economic value. PC Widget has plenty of value.
This little box relocates sound card jacks from the rear to front of the computer for easy access. It provides volume control for the headphone without accessing the cumbersome Windows control panel. It reduces wear and tear on the machine’s jack assemblies and prevents damage to expensive circuit boards by acting as an intermediary break-away device. For me, it’s my laptop multi-media contol center. I use it with SKYPE. (If you don’t already know about SKYPE, visit www.skype.com for a treat. It’s awesome and I use it to communicate around the world.)

This adapter can be used to make your old Telex and other mono headphones compatible with modern computer headphone output. It should NEVER be plugged directly into circuit board mounted connectors. LOOK at the leverage the large plug can apply to the small connecting plug. The force it can apply would far exceed the design criteria of a PCB mounted jack. Use this adapter with a PC Widget, Y-adapter or other breakaway adapter to protect the main devices PCB.
